Hello!

Welcome to What The Cat Dragged In. I started this blog in 2014 following many years of working for various animal welfare and wildlife conservation organisations in the UK. From campaigning to caretaking, I’ve been involved with animals in some capacity my entire life. The more I work with and for the incredible creatures which share our planet, the more dedicated and inspired I am to working to establish a better world for our remarkable furry friends. From enhanced legislation against international wildlife trade to increased recognition of rights for captive animals, as the field of animal welfare grows, so too do the variations and challenges before us. I am both humbled and proud to be involved with so many inspirational organisations and individuals, working together to improve conditions for critters all over the world.

Yet it’s not all policy and policing. I have to admit that in amongst my varied work with campaigning, fundraising, lobbying, volunteering and investigating, I won’t lie – there are times when I quite simply love looking at cute animals. Send a video of bunnies my way and I’ll be happy for a week. In amongst the undeniable squeals I fully admit to producing whenever I see anything fluffy, I can honestly say taking the time to savour positive footage of critters being happy and healthy really does remind me why I do what I do in the first place.

It can be pretty heavy going, working with animals – as I’m sure you can relate to. I’ve lost count of the number of tears I’ve shed or expletives I’ve emitted over the latest heart breaking incident or gut wrenching footage. Sometimes it can feel like we are one person screaming in a world full of deaf people. But then, in comes the next video of the first osprey chicks of the season, or picture of a panda on top of a rocking horse (yep, that one really happened), and my world is a happy place again.

So, if you’re like me and you love doing what you can to help our four legged, feathered or finned friends – while taking time out to smile at pointless videos of cats wearing jumpers- then this site is for you.

I hope you enjoy discovering what the cat dragged in. If it’s anything like my own cats’ offerings, I can’t promise the results will be pretty – but they should at least be pretty entertaining.

Thanks for visiting,
Laura-Jane
