A new planning application has been submitted to build a huge intensive chicken farm in Colwall, a village in Herefordshire on the edge of the Malvern Hills, which has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
If approved, the proposal to build four broiler units would allow for up to 200,000 birds to be confined at a time in hellish conditions. These birds would never see the sun. They would spend their entire lives in dark, filthy sheds until being sent to be slaughtered for meat when they’re just 42 days old.
As well as causing cruelty to animals on a massive scale, this farm would have numerous negative effects on the local area, including the generation of enormous quantities of pollutants such as manure, toxic chemicals and increased carbon dioxide emissions.
As one local resident has said, “Our lives and homes will be permanently blighted if this goes ahead”.
Please speak out against the planning application before 14 November. Fill in PETA’s petition form (link below) to sign our open letter to Herefordshire Council.
